Engineers. Drivers. Twins.

The 24h of Zolder

At the beginning of this month the twins took part in a much known event that was first held in 1983: the 24h of Zolder. The 4 drivers Nicola De Val, Stefano De Val, Christophe Geoffroy and Henk Haane, guided by the expert team Baskoeten Racing, decided together to drive to win in this event in the Wolf GB08.

The free practice and qualifying session went on smooth and easy for the drivers, who managed to qualify the car in the afternoon with Stefano, setting the second absolute fastest time of 1’34″183, second only to the much powerful Audi R8 GT3. Everybody then drove the mandatory laps during the night qualifying session, sharing opinion on how to cope with the lack of visibility that occurs during the long night.

The race started Saturday at 16.00, with Nicola behind the wheel. The second place transformed very soon in a fourth place, since Nicola decided to let the angrier driver cool down for the first hour. After a short period of time, in fact, the twin started pushing and ended being absolute first at the end of his stint, with 2 laps of advantage on the Audi.

After a fast refuel and driver change, it was then Henk turn behind the steering wheel of the Wolf. The driver was managing fast laps, maintaining the advantage, until the driver was forced to came back into the pitbox and was hit by the #98 Porsche 997 while exiting the refueling area carelessly. That resulted in a big impact that forced the drivers to retire due to a major damage to the chassis. Click here to see the video of the crash.

That was the end of the 24h for them, but still they managed to show everybody how fast they are.
